Another goal while in Toronto was to fly aboard my first 737-600. With only 69 airframes produced, the -600 is quite a rare bird to fly in. In the U.S. only the government-affiliated "Janet" based in Las Vegas operate the -600 and that's not a likely option. Thankfully
Canada's WestJet operate a nice little fleet of them. The whole reason for booking my Air Canada flight from SFO to YYZ to YUL in the first place was two-fold. I could get a WestJet 737-600 on the return flight from YUL to YYZ, and also fly in an Air Canada A321
on the way to YUL...it worked out fine.
As it turned out it was snowing in Montreal on my arrival...at times it was coming down pretty hard. A couple of factors made me change my original 5pm departure from YUL back to YYZ to the 2pm departure. #1 - The 12pm departure (a Q400) was cancelled (due to
technical reasons they said.) #2 - The snowfall was concerning me just a little bit. I was in Montreal but I really needed to be in Toronto for my flight the next evening. Sure, I had a LOT of time to play with here but I didn't want to leave anything to
chance given my unfamiliarity with the area and potential travel options should the airport close down due to weather.
So as I said, I changed to the 2pm flight back to Toronto as it was also operated by a 737-600. Had the 5pm departure been my only option for a -600 I would have stuck with it. And as luck would have it, getting back to Toronto three hours earlier than
originally planned had an added benefit in the form of my next two flights which were totally unplanned.
Below is my photo of C-GWSI pulling into the gate in Montreal prior to my flight to Toronto.
Due to the snow and cold temps, before departing we headed to the de-icing pad. We pulled in next to a company 737-700 getting the treatment. C-FIWJ is operating WS #511 to Winnipeg.
