Late 2016 I planned a trip around the world to take place over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend. I chose an eastbound routing, mostly on Singapore Airlines, so I could fly on the nonstop service from
Singapore to SFO on the A350-900.
With this in mind the best fare I could come up with on SQ was a PHX-JFK-SIN-SFO "multi-city" round trip. The PHX-JFK segment came up as jetBlue and was tagged onto the fare for the Singapore Airlines portion of the
itinerary. The final segment that closed the gap was on American Airlines...partly because of the reasonable fare and partly because it was an A321. Therefore all segments on the trip would be aboard
a mix of narrowbody/widebody Airbus products.
At some point I convinced my coworker Jeff R. to tag along on this trip so he'd have something to do over the long weekend and brag about flying around the world. It was Jeff who also accompanied me on my
initial trip to Barrow, Alaska in May 2015 while we were TDY to Fairbanks for two weeks.
Despite being a tad superstitious I started the trip on Friday the 13th...thankfully that didn't adversely affect any portion of the trip. The only thing that even remotely threatened the trip being as smooth as
one could hope for was snowfall at JFK Saturday afternoon/evening that delayed our departure somewhat as the Singapore A380 was de-iced.
Below is my crappy photo of jetBlue A320 N568JB "Blue Sapphire" arriving PHX as #603 from Boston. Below that is the FlightAware screenshot of my flight to JFK.
