I didn't spend a lot of time in England during Friday of this trip as I'd booked a three-flight trip on SAS to try for a "SAS Boeing Triple Play"...an attempt to fly on all three models of 737 SAS flies around Europe. My first leg of the trip was an early morning 640am departure to Stockholm Sweden scheduled to be operated with a 737-600. Like the A318, there are currently only four airlines flying the 737-600 so I figured this would be an easy way to fly on another one.
The previous afternoon after returning from Bucharest I'd checked into the Renaissance Hotel on the north side of Heathrow Airport. I had a nice view of the airport from my 1st Floor room (2nd floor in the U.S.) but the windows were a tad dirty. At £149 per night I expected better, and more on that later. So I set my alarm for an early wake up so I'd be sure to catch the bus to the airport and get through security in time for my flight.
Interesting observation about the airports I'd visited so far this trip. They don't post the gate until an hour before departure. Despite the fact the plane has been parked all night at the gate I guess "they" want people to spend as much time in the food and shopping areas as possible before gathering around the gate area. I find it rather annoying myself but that's just me. I did find myself some breakfast (a "Ploughmans" sandwich, orange, and sweet) and did some browsing before finally noticing the departure gate on the departures board. There was no way possible to get a photo of the 737-600 LN-RPF from the terminal but to my pleasure it turned out the jet bridge was broken and we'd have to board the 737 via airstairs. Nice!!
