I made last-minute plans a couple of days ago to fly aboard Virgin America's new A321neo (new engine option) service from San Francisco to Washington DC. I decided to use a combination of Alaska and Frontier miles for this trip so I'd only
have to pay the service fees.
To get from PHX to SFO I decided on a combination of American Eagle / Alaska Airlines so I'd get a ride in a CRJ-700, a sub-type I'd not yet flown in. The routing to SFO was via Palm Springs so I'd also get a couple new city pairs since I'd
never flown through Palm Springs before.
I arrived PHX after work on Friday June 2nd with a couple of hours to spare. Instead of parking in West Economy I chose covered parking in East Ecomony for convenience and proximity to Terminal 4. Parking and the ride on the Sky Train
was uneventful and a reasonably quick transit through TSA ensured I'd be at the gate with plenty of time to spare.

Thankfully the terminals are connected via an "airside" walkway so no re-clearing of TSA is required. I checked in at the Alaska Airlines gate and found I'd been upgraded to First Class. I asked for a window seat and she gladly gave me 3A.
My transit time was minimal and before long the boarding announcement was made. I settled into 3A for the hour-long flight to SFO.
