Earlier in the week I check the weekend weather forecast for Seattle and it looked superb. I decided to get my September flying out of the way early by booking a roundtrip on Alaska Airlines departing Saturday morning and
returning Sunday night. Being Labor Day weekend, Monday fares were understandably quite high and that's why I only stayed until Sunday night.
After booking by flight I called my sister Vickie and asked if she wanted to hang out with me for the weekend in Seattle...my treat. She readily agreed. I booked her flights online...she would be arriving and departing
within minutes of my flights so it was all good. I booked a rental car but left the hotel booking until after we arrived.
At some point before flight day I checked which planes would be operating the flights. N468AS should be operating the flight up and WOW...N493AS would be operating the flight back. Excellent! The "More To Love"
plane celebrating the Alaska / Virgin America merger!!
About 48 hours out from flight departure I get an email from Alaska notifying me I've been upgraded to First Class. Sweet! I go online and see if any port side windows are available.
I pick 4A out of the
available seats for a chance to see Mt. Rainer on the approach to Sea-Tac Airport.
So, Friday night and very early Saturday morning I finally get my gear together for the weekend trip to Seattle. Flight departs at 0615 so I need to get to the airport pretty early. Once I get to the gate I see
N468AS has actually been swapped out for N408AS. Both planes are in old colors and I've not flown on either before so it's a wash. I still get a new airframe to fly in.
Below is my photo of N408AS at the gate in PHX prior to operating AS #631 to Seattle. Parked on the ramp in the distance is an Atlas Air 767-300.
