During my trip to New Bedford I decided to sample some of the local routes. I was able to fly a couple of classic airliners as well as a couple more Cessna 402s.
MSN 2204, a DC-3-277B, N34PB was originally delivered new to American Airlines as NC22658 on 11 March 1940. She was enlisted by the USAAF for war service between April 1942 and April 1944. In 1949
she served with Trans Texas Airways / Texas International until 1969. PBA bought her in December 1971, and after PBA shut down in the mid-1980s, N34PB was stored. Eventually the aircraft was purchased, made airworthy again, and in 2017 embarked on a successful
round-the-world flight, and in the process became the oldest aircraft ever to circumnavite the Earth. (My money says a B-52 will recapture this honor someday!)
Below is my photo of N34PB at New Bedford, MA on 3 June 1982, the day before I flew aboard her to Martha's Vineyard.
I don't have a photo of my Gull Air Cessan 402 I flew next, on the flight from Martha's Vineyard to Hyannis, MA.
