I booked this trip a few months ago so I could fly on the inaugural United 787-10 service, from LAX to Newark. I originally planned to spend some time with family in MA but had to change those plans. A couple weeks before the trip I made plans to stay with my buddy Jerry in Atlanta for a day and a half.
The inaugural flight on United was a Monday morning. For this flight to LAX it was quite a bit cheaper to fly on the Saturday than the Sunday, but this meant I'd have to spend two nights in the LAX airport terminal, sleeping on bench seats. I don't mind doing this as plane watching at LAX is really interesting. I stay airside so I only pass through TSA at my departure airport...in this case PHX.
I had my choice of many flights on Saturday but I chose a flight later in the afternoon so I could just take it easy Saturday versus getting up at the crack of dawn for an early flight. I sacrificed some plane-watching hours at LAX on Saturday but I'd have all day on Sunday for that anyway.
