Procrastination resulted in a a year-end decision to get enough miles to maintain my MVP status with Alaska Airlines. A couple of daytrips to Seattle would provide the
necessary mileage.
For the first trip I chose to just stay in the airport terminal and photo planes from a spot I know. It is not the greatest photo spot but it is pretty interesting watching the
Horizon Air ramp activity when planes are parked at the spots.
At first I was upgraded to "Premium Economy" and I was happy for that even if it was the dreaded bulkhead seat with fixed armrests, oversized seat belts, and potentially no
storage under the seat in front. When I asked for a printed boarding pass at the gate prior to departure, I didn't even notice the new seat assignment I'd been given. As I boarded
in the 'B' category my boarding pass beep negatively twice. I looked at the pass and it read seat 4D: First Class! :-) Nice, thanks Alaska!
As I found my seat I realized 4D was an aisle seat...not my first choice in airline seats. A nice lady already seated in the window seat (4F) happily switched with me after I explained
I like to video the takeoff and landing phases of flight. She even just outright swiched with me for the whole flight, so it worked out pretty nicely. Thanks again for that
nice gesture!!
Below is my photo of N284AK at PHX prior to departing for Seattle. In the background is Alaska Airlines 737-990 N303AS (no winglets), one of the early build -900s that is also
not an Extended Range model. The Hawaiian Air A330 is N378HA.
Breakfast onboard was a tasty hot sandwich and some grapes and apple slices. I also had a mimosa after my seat neighbor ordered one.
