After a great day in the Minneapolis Saint Paul area doing planes, trains, and the Mall of America, it was time to head back home. The main reason
for this quick trip was to fly aboard a 757 while logging my 757th flight. Sister and I were up early and made it to the airport
to drop the rental off and head inside.
Sister's flight to LAS was a couple hours before mine so I waited with her at her gate until she boarded. My gate was at the extreme opposite
end of the airport so I had a kilometer stroll. It was still dark when her flight pushed and I never did see it go. Her A321 to LAS
was parked at a jetway with the plane nearly impossible to see in the dark. I wandered away to charge my phone and her flight was pushed by
the time I thought to check on her departure.
I started the casual stroll to my gate and snapped some photos of parked planes along the way. I'd booked my flight aboard a 757-300 so I'd not
only get my 757 for my 757th flight, but it would also be my first DL 757-300. This was also only my second-ever 757-300; I'd flown on a United
757-300 on December 31, 2016.
Like sister's gate, my gate was almost equally impossible to get a photo of the 757 prior to departure. However with some creativeness, I was able
to manage a suitable photo for this page. I made up my mind then I'd wait for the planes' departure from PHX to also catch it departing back to MSP.
Below is my photo of N591NW at MSP gate G22 prior to my departure to PHX:
Flight day (March 15th) was supposedly the last day of "full" operations at Delta in preparation for scheduled reductions due to the developing
Coronavirus / COVID-19 situation. My A321 flight the night before was probably fully booked; in contrast this flight was about 52% booked and I
ended up having both adjacent seats vacant on this flight back to PHX.
It was quite cold prior to departure and de-icing was required. We taxied to a de-ice pad and another DL 757-300 pulled in next to us for the treatment. N586NW
is seen getting de-iced prior to operating DL 1714 to Orlando. Interestingly, on 24 March N586NW was flown to Queretaro, Mexico (for storage??)
My snack aboard my 757-300 flight. After telling the flight attendant about my specific reason for this particular flight, and that I had a choice and
chose Delta, she offered me a drink for the occasion. I initially declined but quickly asked for a Bailey's to add to my coffee.
