My connection at PHX to LAS was just a couple hours and it went by pretty quick. I walked the length of terminal 4 north side checking out the planes. I also tried to get a quick breakfast at Wendy's but settled on
some Panda Express!
N934AA arriving PHX from DFW. This airframe is the 7500th Airbus as evidenced by the sticker behind the cockpit windows. Personally I think it should be on the right side of the boarding door so passengers
can see this upon boarding. I didn't even know the significance of this airframe until a few days after this flight when I just happened to notice the remarks column for this airframe on planespotters.net.
Despite the short flight to LAS the crew attempted a quick drink service enroute to LAS. I was in row 12 and got a drink.
After arriving Las Vegas I had a bathroom break and found the Baby Bullet just where I parked her in the economy lot. Not stopping for a morning drink in greater Las Vegas, something told me to take the business route
through Boulder City, Nevada. I knew I could stop for a drink there before continuing on to Kingman. Boy am I glad I did stop. I unexpectedly found the former ATSF SDP40F #6796 in former Maersk Sealand colors. This history of this
locomotive after leaving the ATSF(BNSF) is storied. Around 2004 I just missed seeing this locomotive after it rolled out of the paint shop in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Like the ATSF GP60M 146 in the mid-90s, this unit was
specially painted in this Maersk color scheme for a promotional appearance at the opening of a new intermodal port near Los Angeles. I never saw this 6796 and it was soon sold to a tourist railway in Oregon. It was
stripped of the Maersk Sealand titles and 6796 road number and received road number 644. Fast forward to 2022 and here it sits at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City. I have no idea how long it has been
here but I'm sure I can research and get some details.
The former ATSF/BNSF SDP40F #6976 resplendent in the attractive Maersk color scheme based on the Santa Fe 'Warbonnet' paint scheme:
