N8752Q at HNL prior to my flight to San Diego:
After a quick 2-day trip on Oahu it was time to head home. I'd stayed all day and into the early morning in the HNL airside after arriving on Tuesday 11am time. I got a rental car at 0500hrs on Wednesday so I could go exploring on the north shore in the morning and come back to HNL in the afternoon for some good photography. Having the car until 5am Thursday also gave me a place to nap over night.
Being on Hickam AFB, I had a great time near the reef runway taxiway, then Hickam Beach, and finally Point Foster. Around sunset I headed to the Express to top off the gas and get a snack for dinner. I settled for a couple of hot dogs for dinner. From there I headed back to the parking lot we used during the June 2022 TDY...basically looking due south. I would hunker down here until time to turn the car in at 0500hrs. I did managed to get at least a couple hours sleep...it had been a pretty long week so far. I was also hoping the horizon would stay clear of clouds so I could watch the Southern Cross between about 2am - 4am. Planes were also occasionally coming and going so I could stay amused tracking them on Plane Finder.
Southern Cross did not disappoint...nor did the small variety of airplanes. Soon it was 0400hrs and time to pack up the gear and make the short drive to HNL and return the car.
Once in the terminal after dropping off the car it took about a half hour (maybe a bit less) to get through TSA. Only one lane was open to begin with and lots of weary travellers were queued up. A few minutes before getting to the head of the line a couple more agents began checking IDs so that helped speed up the process.
