Not long after arriving Alconbury, I made my first in-country flights. The on-base travel agent was right next to my barracks and I quickly made friends with the ladies who worked there.
I really like the Viscount but had never flown on one before, so I booked a round trip from Heathrow to Teeside on British Midland. The flight was really cool but I do remember the
distinctive whine of those Rolls Royce turboprops gave me a bad headache.
Oddly enough, just a few days before my flight I ran into one of my Tech School buddies, Chris Gordon-Smith, in the chow hall at Alconbury. I asked him if he wanted to go along for the ride
with me and he agreed, so I had some company for the flight.
