The fabled "green flash" is not a fable after all, it is a function of the earth's atmosphere. Since it can be fairly elusive for land-locked folks to observe I'm going to count my recent, totally unexpected sighting of the phenomenon as viewed through my camera lens.

While watching trains near Gila Bend, Arizona my camera was drawn to the rapidly disappearing sun. Literally only seconds remained and as I raised my camera and composed the shot I observed the upper limb of the sun detach and itself from the great orb of sun. The color was a vivid emerald grean and I was thrilled to witness the event. Thankfully my camera was set to properly expose the event.
